Medicare Made Simple

Turning 65? You’re Not Alone. We’re Here to Help.

Enrolling in Medicare for the first time can feel overwhelming. You’ve likely been receiving constant phone calls, stacks of brochures, and a flood of Medicare-related mail from health plans, Social Security, and unfortunately, even scammers. It can be difficult to know who to trust and where to start.

At Health Solutions Insurance, we’re licensed and certified Medicare brokers dedicated to helping you understand your options without pressure or confusion. Our mission is to break down the Medicare process in simple terms so you can make an informed and confident decision about your healthcare.

When Can I Enroll in Medicare?

You’re first eligible to sign up for Medicare during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). This is a 7-month window that:

      • Begins 3 months before the month you turn 65

      • Includes your birthday month

      • Ends 3 months after your birthday month

    Coverage Start Dates:

        • If you enroll before your birthday month, your coverage usually starts the first day of your birthday month

        • If your birthday falls on the first day of the month, coverage begins the first day of the previous month

        • If you enroll during or after your birthday month, your coverage may be delayed

We’ll help you enroll on time and avoid unnecessary gaps or penalties.

Lost Employer Coverage? You May Qualify for a Special Enrollment Period

If you recently lost coverage from an employer or group plan, you may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to join a Medicare Advantage or Prescription Drug Plan. Choosing the right plan is especially important when transitioning from employer coverage.

We’ll walk you through your choices, including the key differences between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement Plans—a distinction many people misunderstand.

      Understanding Your Medicare Options

      Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)

A Medicare Supplement Plan works alongside Original Medicare (Parts A & B) to cover costs like coinsurance, copayments, and deductibles.

          • Accepted anywhere Medicare is accepted

          • Medicare pays first, then the supplement covers the balance

          • No network restrictions

          • Does not include Prescription Drug Coverage (you’ll need a separate Part D plan)

          • Coverage doesn’t change annually, although premiums may increase

⚠️ Important: If you delay enrolling in a Part D (PDP) plan when first eligible, you could face a late enrollment penalty unless you qualify for an exception.

        Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)

A Medicare Advantage Plan is an all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare, offered by private insurers that contract with Medicare. These plans include:

            • Part A (Hospital)

            • Part B (Medical)

            • Part D (Prescription Drugs)

            • Often extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, gym memberships, transportation, and more

There are several types of Medicare Advantage plans, such as HMO and PPO, each with its own rules, provider networks, and referral requirements. These plans may have lower premiums but often require in-network providers.
